The Thankful Song of Hannah

1Sam. 2:1-11




1. Hannah, whose life changed for despair to hope

1) Hannah who had consuming passion

- Luke 18:1-8

- Children of God’s prayer that matches to God’s will

2) Hannah who had a life story

- Joseph’s life, Moses’s life, Naomi’s life, Ruth’s life, David’s life, and Paul’s life

3) Hannah who was deeply touched by God’s grace

- Hannah’s life: Inside of covenant and inside of Gospel


2. Proclaimed her thankful prayer and songs to God and all people (True the Life of the Evangelist)

1) She praised for the salvation (1Sam 2:1)

- Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.”

- David’s confession (Psalms 23:4) – Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will hear no evil for you are with me your rod and your staff, they comfort me

- Habakkuk’s confession (Hab 3:16-19)

Verse16: I heard and my heart pounded my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us.

Verse17: Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,

Verse18: yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior

Verse 19: The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

- Believers has to have this great thankfulness for the salvation

2) She praised for God’s uniqueness (1Sam2:2)

- “There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”

3) God’s Omni-present and Omniscient (1Sam2:3)

- “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighted.”

4) God’s Omni-present and Omni-potent (1Sam2:4-9)

- “The bows of the warriors are broken, but those who stumbled are armed with strength.”

- Person who is outside of covenant vs person who is inside of covenant

5) Praised God’s authority and providence (1Sam 2:5-10)

- “The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.”

- God wants each individual has a relationship and have communication with God. Also, He wants our faiths in God.



1. We must truly experience fulfillment of the covenant inside of our problems

2. We must truly experience the true blessing of answers to our prayer

3. We must truly experience the bounding of forces of darkness
