The Mizpah Movement

1Sam. 7:1-17

 

 

 

Intro.

- Paul: 2Cor. 4:18 – So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

1) Our spiritual state must be strong (3John 1:2)

- Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

2) We must live a life of commission – Spiritual life

3) We must enjoy physical life

 

Body

1. The Mizpah movement – The movement that restores a relationship with God

1) Get rid of the foreign gods (1Sam 7:3)

2) Give your hearts to the Lord (1Sam 7:3)

3) The Israelites obeyed (1Sam 7:4)

4) Gather at Mizpah (1Sam 7:5)

 

2. The Israelites who gave burnt sacrifice offering (1Sam 7:5-11)

1) Israelites who awoke spiritually (1Sam 7:6)

(1) They drew water and poured it out before the Lord

(2)  They fasted on that day

(3) They confessed that they have sinned against the Lord

- Luke 5:1-11

2) Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it up as a whole brunt offering to the Lord (1Sam 7:9)

3) A true weapon of the Israelites’ lives - Armed with prayer (1Sam 7:8-9)

 

3. They experienced God’s power – Received the true Gospel

1) When they fought against the Philistines, they achieved victory through the loud thunder

2) Had an evidence of Ebenezer (1Sam 7:12)

3) They restored the lands that they had lost (1Sam 7:14)

4) Kept peace with the Amorites (1Sam 7:14)

 

Conclusion

1. Personalization

(1) Gospel: Only the Gospel can solve my problems

(2) Prayer: Prayer is the greatest weapon of my life

(3)  Evangelism: Evangelism is a short way to experience God’s power
